Trust and respecthas to be earned

Your horse doesn’t learn anything if he is being fearful.

First of all he shouldn’t be scared of you or any of the tools you are using. You have to earn your horses respect and trust.

If your horse does anything out of fear he is most likely just reacting but not thinking. Your horse won’t trust you if he doesn’t respect you and vice versa.

Groundwork

Being safe around your horse and your horse being safe is the most important thing to me. People seem to think that as long as the horse rides fine it doesn’t matter what their ground manners are like.

It’s almost like people just seem to think that it’s normal that horses push and pull you around. Like it’s something that you just have to put up with when you want to be around horses.

Riding

Can you ride your horse on a loose rein?
Walk, trot and canter without having to remind him to either slow down or speed up to keep the gait that was asked.
Do you even trust your horse enough to do it?
